I'm a self taught artist living in South Louisiana. I was born and raised in New Orleans and I get alot of my inspiration and love of life from growing up in that unique and fascinating city.
I've always been creative and I guess crafty growing up. For awhile I was an avid sewer and quilter, so I was always drawn to shapes and color, but I never really tried to paint until a few years ago. I really stumbled onto this passion late in life. Job, family, children always came first. Now that I'm older and my children are grown, I have the time to persue this passion. I'm basically self taught when it comes to my abstracts and mixed media pieces. I love color and shape, so my pieces are very colorful and I do see a lot of the quilting influence in my work. I'm continually learning and experimenting with new techniques. I am greatly influenced by the abstract expressionism movement that took place in New York post WWII, also known as the New York School of Abstract Expressionism.
My pieces have been purchased for private collections locally, throughout the U.S., Canada, England, Spain, Sweden, Argentina, Peru, Australia, Thailand and New Zealand.
Events that I've participated in have included:
The Big Easel event, a juried show and sale in Lafayette - Spring 2009 and 2010.
The "Eye of the Beholder" exhibit at the Lafayette Art Gallery a juried show in which I was awarded honorable mention for "Matthew 6:25" - Fall 2009.
"Best Acrylic" and "Best of Show" award for "Bringing it Back Home" at the Big Easel Preview Party and Competition - Spring 2010.
