I'm a self taught artist living in South Louisiana. I was born and raised in New Orleans and I get alot of my inspiration and love of life from growing up in that unique and fascinating city.
I've always been creative and I guess crafty growing up. For awhile I was an avid sewer and quilter, so I was always drawn to shapes and color, but I never really tried to paint until a few years ago. I really stumbled onto this passion late in life. Job, family, children always came first. Now that I'm older and my children are grown, I have the time to persue this passion. I'm basically self taught when it comes to my abstracts and mixed media pieces. I love color and shape, so my pieces are very colorful and I do see a lot of the quilting influence in my work. I'm continually learning and experimenting with new techniques. I am greatly influenced by the abstract expressionism movement that took place in New York post WWII, also known as the New York School of Abstract Expressionism.
I'm also inspired by music, I always have it on when painting. Because of the type of painting that I love to do, I usually listen to rock. It frees me up and let's me 'let loose'. The music that inspires me the most is Led Zeppelin. With their music, I can find the hard and soft, the light and dark that can take me where I want to go with a painting. I know that type of music is a very unusual choice for a visual artist, but nothing makes me happier than to have some bluesy heavy Zeppelin playing on my ipod and to be standing in front of a canvas with a paint brush in my hand.
